a venture of brunswick church

the name no shoes required helps us to say important things about our values and activities. We believe that worship can be informal, relaxed and inviting. That no one should need to pretend to believe or act like they have it all together. no shoes required also looks to the ancient past… when moses took off his sandals at the burning bush because he was on holy ground. no shoes required brings to mind how Jesus washed the dirty, calloused feet of his disciples and asked them to serve in the same way.

what is no shoes required?

... no shoes required started as a series of worship gatherings in the spring of 2004. Together we met God & each other in a comfortable setting, exploring how God meets us where we are, in security and in doubt. In the midst of our debrief process God made it clear that no shoes required was called to become more than another style of worship service.

now...

... no shoes required is a group of explorers mapping out our ancient faith in an increasingly postmodern culture. We felt God’s leading toward gatherings that were even more personal, more inviting, more approachable. Our hearts are broken for our friends and family who desperately need to encounter God, but will never set foot in a church building. Recalling that our faith ancestors didn’t meet behind stained glass windows, we felt strongly that no shoes required needed to be rooted in home communities as well as the church setting. We are investigating how these pieces fit together. With the blessing of Brunswick we are re-exploring some ancient forms of worship.

... no shoes required is bound for uncharted territory. nsr@Home is meeting in homes two or three times a month. nsr@Brunsick meets at brunswick church once a month. The specific dates and places are posted in the announcements forum (or click the links above). The growth and participation has been very encouraging as His hand moves powerfully among us.
